A DISPUTED AND RUINED MOSQUE OF HARYANA

PIRZADA MASJID

 Due to dispute among the people, this mosque has suffered a lot, the court case is going on for its land. Due to neglect from custodians  and Government, the  condition of the mosque is very bad and it can be collapse anytime.


LOCATION      -  Meham town, District Rohtak, Haryana
SITUATION     -  Near Etihaashik Chabutra Park   
PERIOD            - 16th CE
STATUS            - Unprotected

DISCRIPTION  -
As per Hissar Inscription, Pirzada Masjid was built in 16th Century and this Masjid built by Sheikh Yusuf at the reign of Babur. Pirzada was a Sufi Saint at that time, but we didn't get much more information about masjid's history. It is said that there were two inscription within the mosque, but they have been destroyed. In 1976 Professor S.R Phogat did an extensive study on the inscription's of Haryana, it is from his research that he found, the two inscription in inside the mosque in Persian Language.
       
 FIRST  INSCRIPTION OF MOSQUE -   In the north wall of the enclosure of the mosque of is a red sandstone, measuring 19" by 16", which bears in inscription of five line -

TRANSLATION-"In the time of the reign of his Majesty the king of kings, the refuge of the world Zahirudin Muhammad Babar.
"Ghazi Badishah - may god perpetutae his kingdom and his reign the slave of the court of the sun,
""Through the grace of God Almighty found grace to build the mosque of the town of Mahim- May God Almighty,
"Make him accepted and fovoured through His kindness and his wisdom- On the fifth Rabi'al awwal 936
(7th November 1529)

SECOND INSCRIPTION  - In the south wall of the enclosure of the masjid of the Pmeasuring 17" by 6", in three following lines-

TRANSLATION - "In the time of reign of his majesty the slave , the asykum of the khalifat, the king,
"Shihabaddin Muhammed, the second lord of the conjuction, Shahjahan Badishah-i-ghazi- may perputate
"His Khalifat for ever! Shaikh Nasir, son od Sheikh Alahad pf Mahim, found Grace, A, 1051" (12th April 1641)

   As per both inscription we know that, the masjid built in 1529 and  and after rebuilt work in 1641.

ARCHITECTURE OF MASJID- Masjid built in raised platform and square in shape. The structure consist of chamber with domed roof and minarets at corners. it has multi opening with both sides west, No mehrab found in this structure, it has entrance in west side, the present structure has a central cusped arch opening flanked by two arched opening on either side, the central opening is higher than the other other openings . Blind arches are present over and entrance of the masjid. Two minarets  are located at the parapet level, on either end of the facade. The main chamber is spanned by a dome covered with uniformly distributed ribs and topped with an inverted lotus, octagonal shape of the ceilings of the shape. But mostly structure is collapsed and ruined in condition.

CONDITION - it is in very bad condition, badly used by custodians, nearby area is totally encroached by custodians. Most of the structure was totally collapsed and also in collapsing situation Highway crossed on front of mosque, heavy vehicle caused vibration and pollution effect on mosque. Vegetataion growth on mostly surface of Mosque. They need immediate status and conservation work.
